    Position Description

    The School of Global Innovation and Leadership, Lucas College of Business at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Operations Management beginning in August 2025. The incumbent will be required to research and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level in the area of Operations and Supply Chain Management.

    The School of Global Innovation and Leadership equips students to become innovative leaders with a global perspective, offering three concentrations: Operations and Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship, and International Business. Our program provides students with cutting-edge knowledge and hands-on opportunities to develop practical skills. We focus on nurturing innovative thinkers, managers, and entrepreneurs in business operations and management. Students gain expertise in global operations and supply chain processes across both manufacturing and service industries. Each concentration features unique and valuable activities, including guest speakers from the industry, who offer insights into real-world operations.

    Required Qualifications

    Excellence in research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is expected. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in International Business as well as selected courses in other complementary disciplines. All applicants are required to:
    • Possess a doctorate from an accredited university and be academically qualified under AACSB standards. Terminal
      degree must be awarded by date of appointment.

    • Demonstrate concrete evidence of research publications or strong potential for the research publications in the area related to the position.

    • Demonstrate an ability to work in a collegial atmosphere as part of a team, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.


    Preferred Qualifications


    Besides the required qualifications, Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

    • For those with teaching experience, demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.

    • Exhibit a commitment to interact effectively with the Silicon Valley business community.

    • Emphasize pragmatic teaching applications, ideally enhanced by industry experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    The candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Operations and Supply Chain Management, ranging from foundational to advanced levels. Additional responsibilities include student advising, mentoring the student club, curriculum development, and service duties such as program assessment. Effectiveness in academic assignments, including service to students and University, and a record of research and/or professional achievement which are defined in the University Retention/Tenure/Promotion guidelines is required to achieve tenure and promotion. Moreover, the candidate is expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
    • The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
    • Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
    • The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation - through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

    Other Duties

    Note that all San José State University employees are considered mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and are required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and CSU systemwide policy, some faculty duties may lead to designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to complete Clery Act training and to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution.

    Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety). The President may recommend or require compliance with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness and allows the core mission and activities of the campus to continue.

    Conditional Offer

    The work for this faculty position may only be performed in the State of California and requires establishing an on-campus presence.
