Job Summary *This is a part-time (.75 FTE) 30 hours a week benefited position.* The Student Union/Student Services Center Community Service Officer reports to the Police Lieutenant. The Community Service Officer (CSO) is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors. They conduct visible patrols within and around the perimeter of the Student Union and Student Services Center. The CSO also acts as a liaison between the University Police Department (UPD) and Student Union/Student Services Center management as well as establishes positive relationships with students and staff.
Key Responsibilities - Perform foot patrol inside SSC and Student Union
- Perform perimeter checks of SSC and Student Union
- Alternate between posting in the SSC Main Lobby and Student Union Welcome Desk
- Address security concerns of SSC and Student Union staff
- Coordinate with UPD Patrol Officers to address criminal incidents and persons experiencing a mental health crisis
- Report suspicious activity to the Watch Commander
- Provide assistance to students and staff as requested and appropriate
- Respond to non-criminal calls for services and as directed by the Watch Commander.
- Check in regularly with SSC and Student Union staff
- Fulfill Clery obligations as a Campus Security Authority
- Respond to alarms and emergency incidents as appropriate and as directed by the Watch Commander
- Assist University Police with crisis response as appropriate
- Serve on Student Services Center Building emergency preparedness and response team.
- Submit reports and provide updates regarding incidents
- Produce and enter reports into Maxient as needed
- Act as liaison between SSC management and UPD
- Participate in meetings with Student Union and SSC staff
- Participate in SJSU Police training as appropriate

- Ability to monitor/access CCTV screens
- Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner
Required Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid California Driver’s License
License A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.
Preferred Qualifications - Six months previous police/security/military law enforcement training and/or experience
- Experience working in a residential setting
- Customer Service Experience
- Experience working with student populations

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,463/month (0.75 FTE)
CSU Salary Range: $3,680/month - $5,310/month
