    SSCI 301: Survey of Interdisciplinary Social Science
    • Position: Lecturer - Academic Year
    • Semester: Fall 2024
    • Day/Time: Three (3) sections available: (1) Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.; (2) Mondays and Wednesdyas from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.; (3) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

    The Social Sciences Program at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach SSCI 301: Introduction to Social Sciences. The course introduces students to interdisciplinary thinking to examine central questions encountered over the life course related to, for example, becoming a person, group interaction, families, education, politics, and globalization. This course focuses on the ways these experiences are shaped by contemporary societal processes addressed by the social sciences, including gender, race and class, and sexuality. The course should introduce students to the idea of integrating social science perspectives from the program (Sociology, Political Science, History, Psychology, Anthropology, etc) to address social problems.

    Course Description

    Introduction to the history, theories, and methods of the social sciences. Compares and contrasts the contributions of the social science disciplines to understandings and responses to the central riddles, challenges, and milestones encountered over the life course. Focuses on how these issues are shaped by contemporary societal processes addressed by the social sciences, including gender, race and class, and sexual preference.

    Minimum qualifications:
    • A master's degree in psychology, sociology, communication, history, political science, women’s studies, or another social science field
    • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

    Preferred qualifications:
    • A doctorate in psychology, sociology, communication, history, political science, women’s studies, or another social science field
    • Experience teaching from an interdisciplinary perspective in a higher education setting
    • Experience teaching in their area of social science expertise in a higher education setting
    • Experience teaching psychology courses in a higher education setting
    • Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

    Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,007 - $12,594 per full-time month
