Job SummaryFacilities MaintenanceThe City of Olathe is currently recruiting for our next Facility Maintenance team member with a background in a specialized trade such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Building Automation. Our Facilities Maintenance Team plays a vital role in maintaining the functionality of City buildings used by the public and City employees.
About The Role:This is a key position within the Facilities Maintenance Team which works together to meet the needs of our City. A typical day could include using building automation systems to perform advanced troubleshooting of HVAC systems, performing an electrical or plumbing repair, responding to a security or fire alarm, monitoring email for newly assigned work orders, and working with a team member on a more complex repair. Our Facilities Team members are expected to provide excellent customer service and timely updates to our internal customers.

Closing date: 10/11/24For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Facilities Craftsperson I conducts complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry tasks, or related tasks, including diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining assigned systems. A significant portion of their time is spent responding to work order requests, conducting scheduled preventive maintenance, completing assigned special projects, or leading a project. The Facilities Craftsperson I will participate in an on-call rotation. This position is part of a two level career progression of Facilities Craftsperson I and II.
Key Responsibilities- Performs complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other skilled trade tasks; diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building systems.
- Uses building automation systems, schematics, electronic blueprints, and other technologies to ensure proper functionality and perform advanced troubleshooting of building systems.
- Obtains quotes from, collaborates with, and oversees outside contractors when required to make repairs or provide services, ensuring high-quality and timely completion of work.
- Documents work and asset conditions using a work order and asset management system; effectively communicates through email, calendars, and other software tools.
- Serves as subject matter expert in assigned areas; leads and assists with training other staff members.
- Drives or rides from site-to-site completing tasks at City buildings and properties throughout the City; may drive to locations outside of Olathe as needed; responds to after-hours maintenance emergencies as necessary.
QualificationsExperience: Six years of increasingly responsible experience in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry or a related field is required. Must have the ability to work independently and in a variety of environments along with excellent customer service skills.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Specialized training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or a related trade or craft is preferred. Additional relevant and progressively more responsible experience may be substituted for education.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required. Specialized certification in a relevant trade is preferred.
Environmental or Physical Demands: Employees must wear personal protective equipment as required and operate various hand and power tools. They will work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including wet, cold, and humid environments, and perform tasks such as standing, stooping, bending, walking, kneeling, crawling, and reaching; may work on slick or uneven surfaces. The job involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 50 pounds independently and more in a team lift. Will work at various heights, climbing or descending ladders and stairs, and performing work in aerial lifts. Workers may also be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, or sanitary waste. May work in residential/public housing locations.
