    Graduate Engineer A
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • None.


    Graduate Engineer B
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Texas: Engineer - In Training Certification.

    The City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department’s Transportation Engineering Division is looking for a Transportation Engineer focusing on Road Safety and Design. This position will assist with reviewing consultant’s mitigation recommendations at high crash locations throughout the City of Austin, as well as providing design input for current projects under design. The candidate will work closely with consultants and internal staff to deliver safe
    and cost-effective solutions.

    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending
    upon candidate qualifications:


    • Grad Eng A: $33.49 - $42.71
    • Grad Eng B: $35.50 - $45.27


    The ideal candidate will be responsible for a wide scope of responsibilities
    and will have the following skills:

    • Review internal crash data to identify recurring crash patterns at high crash intersections.
    • Review of traffic signal phasing diagrams for safety improvements.
    • Provide design safety recommendations at identified high crash locations
    • Provide design support for small to medium safety projects, as well as large capital improvements projects.
    • Develop construction cost estimates for projects proceeding to design phase.
    • Coordinate with internal divisions such as Active Transportation and Street Design, Vision Zero, and the Delivery team to deliver projects on time and within budget.
    • Review crash mitigation recommendations provided by consultants.
    • Review design recommendations provided by consultants..
    • Needs to be familiar with signal operations and access management strategies to enhance intersection safety.
    • Ability to provide technical input and strategic direction to multiple work teams by coordinating across ATD divisions, other departments, contractors, external stakeholders, and partner agencies to accomplish organizational goals.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including meetings and public events.
    • Organizational skills to manage and monitor multiple safety improvement projects from inception to implementation.


    Travel:
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    City Government
