Position Details

Casual Worker - Part-time employees working on a temporary basis of up to one year with the possibility of extension.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Galleries Curator and Director, the gallery preparator will assist staff and exhibiting artists with art handling, installation and de-installation, framing, and gallery lighting for exhibitions in any of the three galleries. This position is project based and is dependent on the exhibition schedule for each academic year.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $16.00 - $140.00 per hour

Hiring Range/Rate: $22.00 -$30.00 per hour - depending on experience

Salary Grade/Range: N/A

Time Base: Hourly-Intermittent

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Department Information

The mission of the University Galleries is to cultivate inquiry, learning, and critical dialogue through firsthand experiences of visual art and culture through exhibitions, public programs, and publications. Comprised of three galleries on campus-University Library Gallery, Else Gallery, and Witt Gallery, the University Galleries produces approximately 35 exhibitions throughout the academic year and stewards a growing art collection of over 800 objects and public artworks. The University Library Gallery is the primary space for scholarly, large-scale exhibitions, presenting 4-6 shows each academic year. With over 9,000 visitors annually, the Sacramento State galleries are a cultural resource for students, staff, faculty and surrounding communities.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to maintain a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community. Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining a respectful and professional work environment. Knowledge of fine art handling procedures and protocols and exhibition installation. Skilled experience with framing, packing and art handling, use of tools such as drill and ladders, assembling and moving furniture displays for exhibitions and adjusting gallery lighting. Ability to problem solve and work efficiently within deadlines. Ability to follow instruction, work independently, and manage projects to completion. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
