    This position will be located at Bennett Spring State Park, 26250 Highway 64-A, Lebanon, MO. Shift is Friday-Tuesday (five 8-hour shifts), 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1/2-hour lunch break). This position will require working frequent weekends, holidays, nights on alternating weekends, and special events outside of the standard shift. Must and be available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.

    • Assist in directing the overall operation and maintenance of Bennett Spring State Park.
    • Oversee the work of full-time staff and various seasonal and volunteer staff, including the ability to mentor and coach staff.
    • Participate in planning and directing natural or cultural history interpretation, resource management and research for Bennett Spring State Park.
    • Planning and coordinating special events, group outings, and special program requests with a variety of stakeholders.
    • Assist in resource stewardship activities. Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
    • Ability to develop budget and project recommendations and perform administrative functions including revenue and procurement.
    • Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.
    • Act in the absence of the Park Superintendent and independently make sound decisions and direct staff as needed.
    • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.


    This position is required to complete Level 1 Fire Training within 12 months of employment.

    • Risk Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools used for risk assessment and mitigation, including assessment of failures and their consequences.
    • Adaptability: Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment
    • Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, History, Business of Public Administration or related field AND Four or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites (substitutions may be allowed)


    (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)

    Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
