This is an advanced professional position responsible for performing accounting work that is wide in scope and complexity. Employees at this level apply advanced accounting and financial theory to develop and implement statewide accounting policies, procedures, and systems. Senior Accountants ensure integrity, accuracy, and control of data and fund expenditures. Work at this level requires working under the guidance of statewide accounting policies and includes uniquely complex issues with many unknowns, and significant risk to the State.
- Analyze and review SAM II Financial documents for accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and statewide policies. These documents include the following: Journal Vouchers (JV), Referencing Journal Vouchers (JVR), RM, NF and CR documents.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance to state agency personnel related to errors identified in processing documents in the statewide general accounting system.
- Review and testing of requested changes to SAM II Financial.
- Able to initiate, process, and review reports as needed to for various processes.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allows)
Preferred Qualifications: - Extensive knowledge of the statewide accounting system as well as the generally accepted accounting principles is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of the SAM II Financial System.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel is desired.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the unit, other OA divisions, and state agencies.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and ability to apply them to varied accounting transactions
