    POSITION OVERVIEW :

    The purpose of this position is to help teach the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department’s Earth Camp and Earth School programs for 5th graders (www.austintexas.gov/watershed/YouthEd) ,; coordinate inventory, storage, and maintenance of educational resources for the Community Education Team; and assist with other Community Education projects and programs as needed. Under general direction, this position coordinates and participates in interdepartmental and interagency environmental and conservation programs and projects, including community education, presentations, and meetings. Essential duties include teaching students and the public about flood safety and actions that impact water quality; developing informational resources; organizing/maintaining/transporting/loading/unloading educational supplies/resources; managing storage spaces for the Community Education Team; checking in/out tabling supplies; working with Fleet to maintain the Community Education Team’s two vehicles; ordering educational supplies; preparing reports and documents for support of projects and programs; evaluating projects, programs, and performance measures and criteria; assisting in the development of short-and long-range plans for projects and programs; traveling to various sites around Austin; and representing the Department.

    EDUCATION :
    Verification of education will be conducted on the top candidate.

    TRAVEL :

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Communicates project and program information to internal and external customers; through presentations, reports, tours, instructional videos and/or technical training. Compiles, analyzes, interprets and develops informational and/or educational materials. Prepare necessary reports and/or documents for support of project/program. Maintains technical currency and awareness of internal/external business issues at it relates to area of responsibility. Represents Department/Division by interacting with various boards, commissions, special interest groups, outside organizations and other City Departments/Divisions. Trains, coordinates and supervises the work of volunteers. Responds to requests from the media Evaluates projects, programs and performance measures/criteria. Assists in the development of short- and long-range plans for projects and programs. Reviews and interprets policies, codes, regulations and ordinances. Assists in the development of departmental/divisional processes and procedures.

    City Government
