    Minimum Qualifications
    Street and Bridge Operations Technician II:

    Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in maintenance or construction, including one (1) year of experience which was in operating heavy-duty equipment or concrete finishing. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    Valid Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver License ( CDL ).

    Physical Requirements:
    Continuous outdoor activity; frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor/dust hazards, electrical hazards; occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying or lifting up to a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, and indoor activity.

    Street and Bridge Operations Technician III :
    Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in maintenance or construction, including two (2) years of experience which were in operation of heavy-duty equipment or concrete finishing. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

    Licenses or Certifications:

    Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver License ( CDL ).

    Physical Requirements:

    Continuous outdoor activity; frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing; exposure to extreme heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor/dust hazards, electrical hazards; occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying or lifting up to a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, and indoor activity.
    Notes to Applicants
    These positions will perform general street, bridge and right of way maintenance, constructions, and rehabilitations for a large public works department, incorporating standard maintenance, construction and repair techniques to produce a finished product that meets standard requirements.

    The Street & Bridge Operations Technician II or III will be required to operate light and heavy motorized equipment for street and bridge maintenance and document processes into a work order management database (Maximo). In addition, Tech II & III will be responsible for training lower-level staff on equipment and/or job-related tasks.

    This position will primarily assist in utility excavation repairs or concrete maintenance. The Street & Bridge Operations Technician II or III will be required to operate light and heavy motorized equipment for street and bridge maintenance and document processes into a work order management database (Maximo).

    “If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.”

    Driving Requirement:

    This position requires a Valid Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver License ( CDL ) or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    To be considered for employment in this position, applicants must comply with Department of Transportation federal regulations and the City of Austin Alcohol and Drug Policy for Commercial Vehicle Drivers, including alcohol and drug testing as required.

    • Experience performing road maintenance and repair.
    • Experience Hauling Equipment.
    • Experience operating the following heavy equipment: Drum Truck, Front End Loader, Excavator & Mini Excavator, Pneumatic Roller, Backhoe, Skid Steer, Volume-Metric Concrete Truck, Haul Truck, and Dump Truck.
    • Experience working on projects that met ADA Standards and City of Austin Specifications Design.
    • Experience setting up traffic control.
    • Experience setting up (forming, layout, excavating) and finishing concrete projects.
    • Experience with specialty concrete finishes.
