    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus six (6) years of relevant work experience, two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Drivers License ( CDL ) or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 120 days of employment.
    • Ability to produce and maintain an acceptable driving record.

    The Distribution Electrician Supervisor ( DES ) position oversees personnel performing overhead and underground distribution construction, maintenance, and restoration activities. The ideal candidate will have: experience working as a Distribution Electrician, managing multiple distribution projects, and safely providing oversight during normal day and restoration periods; experience working with or within Work Management systems and Asset Management programs while providing project updates and completion timelines; the ability to present analytical data and communicate project scope and performance-based reporting to Management. This position will require the employee to perform site visits to meet with project coordinators and perform crew audits.

    Commercial Driver License:
    This position requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one within 120 days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Work Schedule:
    This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.
    Shifts may change according to departmental needs. Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Direct utility experience working as a crew leader leading three (3) or more employees in daily tasks with construction, maintenance, and/or restoration work groups.
    • Experience working with utility management programs such as Mobile Workforce Management ( MWM ), Advanced Distribution Management System ( ADMS )/Field Client, Integrated Tools for Operation (iTOA), Maximo and Smartsheet.
    • Experience working within a Quality Management System ( QMS ) such as ISO 9001.
    • Experience working with Distribution Construction Standards and Design Guidelines for both overhead and underground facilities.
    • Experience interfacing with and providing detailed information to internal and external customers.
    • Experience providing guidance and training to employees under your direction as a lead.
    • Experience tracking multiple projects, resources, material, and inventory associated with distribution projects.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    Assigns, organizes, and monitors task completion for work group. Interprets, explains and enforces City policies, procedures, building codes, specifications and ordinances. Communicates with schedulers regarding work orders. Monitors safety issues for work group. Operates line work tools and equipment. Performs repair, installation, maintenance or removal of electric utility facilities and equipment as required. Performs emergency electric system restoration as necessary.

    • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of Transmission and Distribution design and construction standards.
    • Knowledge of applicable Austin Energy and OSHA safety regulations.
    • Knowledge of local environmental requirements for construction and maintenance activities.
    • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
    • Skill in estimating time, material and labor for job assigned.
    • Skill in oral and written communications.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
    • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
    • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps and written specifications.
    • Ability to work in field conditions, temperature extremes, and other inclement weather conditions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with subordinates, management, city employees, and the public.

    City Government
