    Job Description

    The Project Specialist III is responsible for providing meteorological analysis and forecasting ahead of high impact weather events affecting TEEX.Supports development and delivery of exercises related to severe weather such as hurricanes, tornados, heat/cold emergencies, etc.

    This position reports to the TEEX Director of EHS.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Two years of experience related to forecasting weather for high impact events affecting state and local authorities as well as private industry.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 courses within 60 days for employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • NIMS/ICS 300/400.
    • Trained in Hurrevac, CAMEO Aloha, and HYSPLIT.
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in meteorology or related field.
    • 20+ years of experience related to forecasting weather for high impact events affecting state and local authorities as well as private industry.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to support training and exercises for up to 8-10 hours/day.
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
    • Some lifting/carrying of light to moderately weighted classroom/presentation materials.
    • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of training equipment.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of weather forecasting tools, office software, and instructional programs.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Training equipment.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Technical Support - 90%
    • Provides weather forecasting/consulting for all TEEX Divisions, locations, major activities (e.g., Annual Schools, Disaster Day).
    • Provides weather forecasting/consulting for Texas A&M Task Forces (i.e., training, deployments, etc.).
    • Assists TEEX Division EHS Staffs with Severe Weather Plans for their applicable locations and operations, (e.g., Hurricane Plans, Cold Weather/Freeze Plans, etc.).
    • Assists in course/exercise planning and deliveries when weather is an element of the subject matter, scenarios, exercise injects, etc.
    • Develops and delivers training and presentations to agency and employees to improve preparedness and resilience.


    Other Duties - 10%
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
