    Plant Maintenance Team Supervisor

    The City of Olathe’s Environmental Services Division wants YOU to join our team of talented and dedicated employees that provide critical water related services to the City of Olathe residents. In 2023, our award-winning water production facility treated 5 billion gallons of drinking water for an average daily demand of over 13 million gallons per day while our two NACWA Gold award winning wastewater treatment plants treated a combined average of 6.4 million gallons per day. Our Plant Maintenance group works to make sure our Drinking Water Production, Wastewater Treatment, and Environmental Lab are fully functioning so that we consistently meet or exceed all federal and state regulations while delivering exceptional services to City of Olathe residents.

    As a Team Supervisor, you’ll lead a team responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure for the City’s water and wastewater operations. A typical day might include assigning maintenance tasks for your team, collaborating with operations staff on maintenance issues, performing preventive maintenance activities; and replacing a pump or motor.

    Pay Range: $28/hour to 35.37/hour depending on qualifications

    Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3: 30 PM during training period. Once training is completed, other schedule options may be available.

    The Plant Maintenance Team Supervisor oversees and provides functional and technical supervision of a team of Plant Maintenance Technicians. They direct, assign, and review the activities and operations for their team. They coordinate assigned activities with internal and external agencies and vendors. A significant portion of their time is spent performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of assigned systems and equipment.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned technical and maintenance staff; oversees implementation of safety procedures and regulations; coordinates and oversees daily tasks of assigned personnel; implements individual employee development programs.
    • Maintains knowledge of methods and techniques of general infrastructure maintenance and repair related to the area of work assigned, including the maintenance of asset management and work order management records within the City’s Computerized Maintenance Management Software.
    • Plans, performs, and documents highly technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of assigned systems and equipment; assists in developing and adheres to predictive maintenance programs.
    • Operates equipment including trucks, hand tools, power tools, pumps, valves, actuators, electronic test meters, and various other vehicles, equipment, and tools required to perform maintenance work.
    • Participates in and coordinates emergency operations including after hours on-call, emergency response and snow removal as required.


    Qualifications

    Experience: Seven years of experience in water or wastewater maintenance and two years of experience applying Predictive Maintenance techniques such as Vibration Analysis, Infrared Thermography, Oil Analysis or similar are required. Experience leading teams is preferred.

    Education: A high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required. Additional relevant and increasingly responsible experience may be substituted for education.

    Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required. An ABC Class III Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification is preferred and is required within 24 months of hire.

    Environmental or Physical Demands: The Plant Maintenance Team Supervisor performs work that will expose one to wet/humid conditions, inclement weather, indoor/outdoor extreme heat/cold temperatures, high noise areas, fumes and/or chemicals. This work involves working at heights and/or within confined spaces. On occasion, work requires wearing a respirator. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb and descend stairs and ladders, and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach forward/overhead, crouch, bend, kneel, and crawl sometimes while carrying items. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, safety glasses, safety boots, hardhat, and gloves.
