    Minimum Qualifications

    Overview:
    The Sustainability researcher will support the sustainable operations bureau in developing and implementing sustainability related programs at OPRHP. Programs may include:

    o Waste handling & reporting
    o Refrigerant management
    o Single use plastic elimination
    o Green Purchasing
    o Reduced mowing
    o Hydration stations

    The intern will report to the OPRHP Sustainability bureau based in Albany, work closely with affiliated staff, and engage with external partners.

    Qualifications:
    ? Bachelors or Graduate degree in environmental policy, conservation, engineering, sustainability, or similar discipline.
    ? Knowledge of waste management, circular economy, composting, recycling, communication methods & visual presentation.

    Duties Description

    Job Duties
    ? Program Development and Coordination:
    o Conduct research to aid the creation and implementation of sustainability programs.
    o Collaborate with the Sustainable Operations Manager to develop and implement waste reduction and broader sustainability programs across state parks.
    o Create & gather sustainability related documents, guidance, and materials.
    o Coordinate with park managers and regional staff to integrate sustainability practices into daily operations.

    ? Education and Outreach:
    o Develop educational programs and materials to promote sustainable practices among park staff and patrons.
    o Organize workshops, training sessions, and community events to raise awareness and build capacity in sustainable practices.
    o Engage with local communities and stakeholders to foster partnerships and support for sustainability initiatives.

    ? Monitoring and Evaluation:
    o Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of sustainability programs and initiatives.
    o Prepare reports and presentations on sustainability metrics and achievements for internal and external stakeholders.

    State parks and historic sites are staffed by a core of permanent employees who work year-round to maintain these precious resources. During the peak of our operating season (May through September) the permanent staff is supplemented by several thousand seasonal employees who work to ensure that our patrons have a positive and safe experience when visiting our sites.
