    The Position


    About the Auditor-Controller’s Office:

    The Auditor-Controller is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of Napa County by effectively providing financial oversight through accounting policies, procedures, systems, internal controls, compliance and audits for the benefit of all County Departments, Special Districts, Joint Power Authorities, and the residents of the County. We also partner with the Napa Superior Court for their payroll and other State mandated services and the County’s School Districts, Cities, Town and Special Districts for property tax allocations, State and Federal reporting, and local initiatives.

    About the Position:
    This position will be responsible for office management, clerical and paraprofessional tasks within the Auditor-Controller’s Office and is the first point of contact to all the customers we serve. The position is part of the Administrative Team under the Auditor-Controller and requires an energetic, customer service focused and can-do work ethic that loves to problem solve and take on a variety of tasks.

    The Administrative Secretary I is designated as a Confidential position. As such, this position will earn an additional Confidential pay of $300.00 per month (paid $150 biweekly).

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy for the Department of Auditor-Controller. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited terms, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.

    Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary increases and Wintertime Off (WTO)
    • 3.5% COLA Increase effective 7/1/2025
    • 3.5% COLA Increase effective 7/1/2026
    • 32.0 hours of Winter Time Off (WTO)

    Position Requirements
    To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:

    Experience:
    Three years of significant, directly-related and progressive secretarial experience.


    Education:
    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by specialized secretarial training.

    License or Certificate:*
    Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

    *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

    Supplemental questions will be scored by the subject matter experts. Only the most qualified applicants from the scoring of the supplemental questions will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview.
    Oral Panel Exam Tentatively scheduled for the week of November 4, 2024 Establish Eligibility List Week of November 11, 2024
    Only the most qualified candidates from the oral panel exam will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered to fill positions for up to one year.

    CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE BENEFITS INFORMATION

    SALARY -
    Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.

    CONFIDENTIAL -
    $300.00 per month confidential pay ($150.00 paid twice monthly). The County contributes a proportionate amount of this pay for employees in less than full-time positions.
