    Pay Range: $78,332.80 - $101,816 annual compensation

    Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Some evening/weekend work required.

    Transportation Planning Engineer - The position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation Public Works Department in the Regional Transportation and Innovation division. The selected candidate will perform project management activities, including assisting with project planning, negotiating and executing design and construction contracts, preparing and reviewing cost estimates, reviewing invoices, coordinating with internal and external project stakeholders, preparing Mayor & Council Communications seeking authorization for project actions requiring approval, conducting site visits during scoping and pre-engineering, evaluating scopes, concepts, and planning schematics for roadway, railroad, and other multi-modal projects. Coordination in local government, TxDOT, and railroad capital projects is critical to the position.

    This Position qualifies for the following incentive which is separate from the base pay:
    • Sign-On Incentive of $5,000 ***50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment.***

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or related field
    • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience, of which two years must be in transportation infrastructure projects such as roadway, intersection improvements, signals, street lights, roundabouts, and sidewalks
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. (If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within six months of employment)
    • Valid Driver's License.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of using American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association Manual (AREMA), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), - Manual for Geometric Designs of Highways and Streets (AASHTO); National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTCO) design guides; and other relevant industry manuals for concept, policy, and construction plan review.
    • Experience with state and federal transportation processes.
    • Certified with good standing in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
    • Proficient in the use and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat), and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access).
    • Project Management Professional certification or Construction Management Agent certification

    The Transportation Planning Engineer job responsibilities include:
    • Knowledge of railroad, TxDOT, and transportation issues, locations, rules and regulations, and contact information.
    • Extensive knowledge of transportation engineering and project development, access management, railroads and freight corridors, policy, National Environmental Policy Act, funding, design standards, emerging trends, and implementation processes.
    • Manage the funding, design, and construction of multi-modal transportation infrastructure projects, including the ability to develop funding applications/proposals, detailed scopes of work, direct and manage consultant contracts, procurement, project delivery, and financial obligations.
    • Advise City staff, City Council, public, and external stakeholders on transportation planning, railroad, TxDOT, and Trinity Metro policy issues.
    • Effectively communicate through verbal, written, and visual means with the railroad, TxDOT, Trinity Metro, the public and other governmental entities on project funding, design, and construction projects.
    • Find funding sources for the railroad safety improvement program (TXDOT Section 130 fund), for roadway, ped/bike, and transportation technology projects to leverage city funding
    • Attend safety and operational improvement onsite with TxDOT, railroads, and other agencies
    • Coordinate with other city departments to facilitate and expedite project activities

    Medical Program

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
