    DEFINITION:
    Performs a variety of entry level accounting assignments in the preparation, analysis, review, maintenance, reconciliation, and control of financial records and fiscal revenue and expenditures forecasting.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:

    Positions allocable to this class work under the close supervision of a higher level accounting supervisor. Employees in this class perform a variety of entry level accounting assignments and related fiscal management functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Employees must have a thorough knowledge of accounting concepts and principles sufficient to do entry level work.

    Essential Job Functions

    Performs a wide variety of accounting assignments related to departmental accounting activities occurring within the annual accounting cycle including the annual setup and maintenance of accounting records, the classification of transactions, trial balance, closing, and end of period adjustments.

    Performs accounts payable, accounts receivable and capital asset accounting.

    Compiles, analyzes, and reconciles a variety of financial transactions, statements and reports.

    Assists in preparing complex accounting reports and schedules, including statements of revenue and balance sheets.

    Assists in conducting cost surveys, revenue analyses, and other accounting studies and participates in writing reports of findings.

    Assists in studying, developing, and installing modifications of departmental accounting systems.

    Assists in the audit of grant related expenditures for appropriate use and coding and compiles expenditure data and reports.

    Does direct research to define the accounting requirements of laws and regulations.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree or higher including 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting*.

    Required education must be fully met and indicated on the application by the last day of filing.

    LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize and alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    2-Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION:
    *ACCREDITATION: Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references.
    Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited institutions standards by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). See Employment Information under Accreditation Information.

    *In order to receive credit for the required coursework or university degree, such as Bachelor's or higher, you must include a legible copy of the official diploma or official transcripts from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization with your application at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days of filing. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted to meet the educational requirement. We do not accept password-protected documents. Ensure documents are unlocked before attaching to your application or send to the exam analyst.

    Official Transcript is defined as a transcript that bears the college seal and states "official and/or copy" issued by the school's Registrar Office of the transcript from the school's website is NOT considered official and; therefore, will NOT be accepted and may result in your application being incomplete or rejected.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional credit will be given to qualified applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications.
    • Experience in using Microsoft excel features to analyze data and generate various reports.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT

    This examination will consist of an evaluation of training based upon the application, supplemental questionnaire, desirable qualifications at the time of filing, weighted 100%. Additional credit will be given for experience beyond the minimum requirements.

    CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    AVAILABLE SHIFT

    Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
