General Description and Classification Standards
Directs and manages assigned staff and provides a safe and healthy environment for the City’s citizens by planning, organizing and directing the overall administration of the county’s code enforcement and building inspection programs. Duties include, but are not limited to: ensuring the enforcement of laws related to zoning, building, grading and erosion control; participating in the work of the code enforcement branch; and working with the City’s Zoning Administrator to formulate and implement zoning
Supervision Received
Direction received is general and focuses more on long-term and short-term operating objectives, managerial effectiveness, and operating results.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, planning, public or business administration, political science, geography, economics or a closely related field and Five years’ experience in the public sector with zoning, building enforcement and two years’ experience equivalent to a City of Atlanta Code Enforcement Officer (or equivalent combination of experience and training). Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree.
Minimum of three years of responsible administrative or supervisory experience in law enforcement, legal functions, the operations of a planning and zoning or building department, or similar governmental regulatory or enforcement agency is required.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in planning, architectural design or drafting, building inspection, public administration, administration of justice, criminal, constitutionals or civil law or law enforcement, or a closely related field and eight to ten years of experience in code enforcement, planning and zoning, or government relations
Real estate, appraisal. inspection, construction, and repair background.
Licensures and Certifications
Position would be expected to have licensure or professional certifications appropriate to the position. Required: Valid Georgia driver’s license.
