    The City’s Community Services Department is seeking a part-time Marketing and Membership Coordinator (Staff Specialist-H) to promote the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, along with its public programs, to families and schools in the community. Marketing platforms include digital advertising, social media, and print, with a particular emphasis on social media. The position may also involve assisting with the preparation of communications for the press and other stakeholders.

    The Junior Museum and Zoo serves children, birth to age 8, through its science exhibits and zoo, and children to age 11 through its school programs and summer camps. Approximately 114,000 visitors enjoy the Museum and Zoo each year and 19,000 take part in its science lessons and field trips at the Museum, in local schools, and in local open spaces. The Junior Museum’s mission is to engage a child’s curiosity in science and nature.

    Work Schedule : The position requires approximately 17-20 hours per week, with a portion of the hours eligible for remote work. Weekend and weekday availability is expected. The successful candidate will collaborate with their supervisor to develop a consistent weekly schedule.

    This is an SEIU Hourly (limited benefits) position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

    The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.

    (In lieu of providing a medical plan, the City grants a medical stipend of $3.80 per hour in paid status)

    Essential Duties:

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Develops and distributes digital and print collateral to publicize museum programs, public hours, exhibits, special events and brand awareness.
    • Works with Executive Director to develop an annual marketing plan and calendar.
    • Works with staff to gather ideas and content (images, videos, etc) for social media.
    • Executes social media and digital advertising placement.
    • Creates fliers for on-site promotion of programs and special events.
    • Prepares monthly reports summarizing market analytics. Assists supervisor in preparing reports.
    • Maintains contact lists for constituents-families, schools, partner organizations, and other organizations through which the museum advertises programs, exhibits, and events.
    • Participates in staff meetings to identify marketing needs and opportunities.
    • Assists Guest Services staff in preparing emails and other communications with Museum Members.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Sufficient education, training and/or work experience and demonstrated possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    • Bachelor’s or AA degree required. Emphasis on marketing or communication preferred.
    • Two years marketing or communication experience required.
    • Some graphic design ability preferred.
    • Second language highly desired.
    Special Requirements:
    • Valid California driver’s license
