    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Initiates and engages in criminal or civil litigation, which includes investigating and analyzing facts, applying legal knowledge, planning trial strategy, consulting with parties, expert and lay witnesses, and negotiating and resolving litigation prior to trial. Conducts criminal and civil trials on behalf of county and represents county at administrative and other hearings.
    • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of county, state and federal law, rules of evidence, criminal and/or civil rules of procedure, administrative rules, and rules of court.
    • Exercises increased authority in decision-making and discretion when advising clients, negotiating, and resolving litigation, and in determining alternative courses of action.
    • Demonstrates ability to handle large volume of cases and/or clients, meet deadlines and prepare for meetings, court proceedings, hearings, and trials, demonstrates increased knowledge in specific areas of criminal and/or civil areas of practice.
    • Consistently maintains effective working relationships with civil clients, county departments, law enforcement representatives, victims, other employees, the courts, and the public.
    • Advises county departments, clients, and various law enforcement agencies on civil and criminal matters.
    • Performs legal research and drafts, reviews and prepares legal documents including motions, petitions, opinions and demands.
    • Assist and guide less experienced attorneys in case preparation.
    • May direct, train and evaluate performance of staff.
    • May recommend attorney and case assignments.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.

    Experience:
    A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant legal experience.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license. Admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
