Salary Range: $57,000 - $62,000, commensurate with experience

This is a limited-term position that may end on September 30, 2026.

    Job Description

The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs - Welcoming Atlanta (MOIIA) was established to create and maintain working relationships with the consular and diplomatic corps, bi-national chambers of commerce, international trade offices, foreign-born population, organizations, and businesses. Our mission is to develop and foster relationships with Atlanta’s international community and foreign partners to position Atlanta as a global hub for commerce, innovation, education, culture, and diplomacy. Our office is also committed to creating a connected, inclusive community, where Atlantans are afforded equal opportunities and meaningfully engage in civic life, regardless of language or country of origin.

The New Arrivals Coordinator will work on a range of duties to help develop an integrated approach to reception of newly arrived asylum seekers and migrants in Atlanta. The Coordinator will collaborate with community based organizations to develop an understanding of direct services available to asylum seekers and assist with navigating those resources. The Coordinator will also track federal and local policies impacting immigrants/asylum seekers, support program coordination, and assist with administrative duties. This position reports to the Senior Policy and Partnership Manager and is tied to SSP/SSP-A grant funding.

This position is funded by the Shelter & Services Program Grant and if the grant funding is decreased or not renewed, the City of Atlanta is not legally obligated to make this a permanent position.

This is a full-time, extra-help position that is tied to the performance period of the SSP/SSP-A grant, ending September 30 th , 2026 (tentatively) and will require a 40 hour/week commitment. Salary Range: $57,000 - $62,000, commensurate with experience.

    Justification

The Mayor’s Office of International & Immigrant Affairs is facilitating and managing $15.4 million for the Shelter and Services Program (SSP/SSP-A) administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and we are requesting staff support to help navigate, coordinate, and form a cohesive plan to execute the New Arrivals Program and federal grant administration process. As the City of Atlanta and Georgia continues to become a top destination for migrants, the New Arrivals Program will provide a framework for the City’s position in supporting new arrivals as they seek to recover and rebuild their lives, and to identify long-term opportunities so this population does not become undocumented and unstable.

We have budgeted $1 million dollars of SSP to be allocated towards the City of Atlanta’s management and administration. We will allocate approximately $2 million for SSP-A. The New Arrivals Coordinator will allow the Mayor’s Office of International & Immigrant Affairs to increase our capacity to coordinate, build, and execute the program.

    Responsibilities will include:
    • Identify and develop partnerships to expand and improve the quality of referrals for clients
    • Communicating with subrecipients of SSP/SSP-A to measure capacity and assist in navigating alternative resources (i.e. shelter/housing options, legal services, USCIS coordination, etc.)
    • Assisting staff with administrative duties.
    • Coordinate outreach to clients with colleagues in other departments to ensure the widest possible range of newly arrived clients are aware of services (i.e.

    • Assist the Operations Assistant and Sr. Policy and Partnership Manager with FEMA reimbursement request for the City of Atlanta.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in social work, political science, policy studies, community development, public administration or related field of study preferred.
