    Several full-time positions available with the Health Department, Communicable Disease Prevention Division and one position available with the Sexually Transimitted Diseases Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
    Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Works under the general supervision and receives daily direction from the Senior Disease Investigators (Public Health Specialist II's) of the Division.
    • Performs work through great initiative and follow-through.
    • Uses computer programs and applications substantially to complete various tasks that include researching,¿conducting and documenting investigations/interviews with individuals who have been diagnosed with various communicable diseases, providing educational presentations, and assisting in community outreach events.¿
    • Answers phone calls, conducts field visits, medical record searches, and solicits medical information from mandated sources, including interviewing clients by phone, in their home or hospital as necessary to obtain required information.
    • Handles all information in this position strictly confidential.
    • Uses excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of infectious diseases and/or proficiency in a second language is desirable.
    • Enters data into numerous databases and will need to be very familiar with data management.
    • Wears a high efficiency respirator mask and other personal protective equipment when delivering services within an area assessed as high risk for exposure to infectious diseases as needed.
    • Lifts up to 50 pounds when assisting with community and clinic-based activities.
    • Climbs stairs to access client residents is essential.
    • Possesses the mastery of a selection of basic clinical techniques and procedures, not limited to phlebotomy, administering and reading TB skin tests, sputum induction and the operating of an X-ray machine.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR a High School Diploma and 4 years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
