    DESCRIPTION

    THE DEPARTMENT

    The mission of the Department of Public Works is “to maintain and enhance the City’s infrastructure and environment for the benefit of the public.” The Department’s core services are focused on providing for and maintaining safe and efficient infrastructure for the community, providing for sustainable environmental protection including water quality and waste collection and diversion, and safely and efficiently designing, constructing, delivering, protecting and maintaining services for public facilities and public rights-of-way. The Department has six bureaus: Business Operations, Engineering, Environmental Services, Project Management, Public Service, and Transportation Project Management. The Department has over 580 budgeted positions with an annual operating budget of $250 million and an annual capital improvement program budget of $150 million.     THE POSITION

    The Department of Public Works is currently hiring a part-time, unclassified Assistant Administrative Analyst I (Non-Career). This role will be part of the Community Information Division, spearheading public education campaign projects and content creation for the Department's website and social media accounts.

    Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12 month period and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Analyzes and compiles data gathered from community survey outreach campaigns.
    • Schedules and organizes community meetings for providing updates.
    • Gathers basic data to be used in administrative, fiscal, or procedural analysis of activities and services.
    • Assists in the preparation and control of the annual budget.
    • Performs preliminary research, investigations, and studies to promote cost effectiveness, efficiency, and the resolution of issues.
    • Develops preliminary interpretations and makes recommendations for improvement in the planning and delivery of services and the attainment of departmental goals and objectives.
    • Analyzes forms and documents for compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures.
    • Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of administrative systems and procedures.
    • Communicates and collaborates with individuals and organizations both within and outside of the City.
    • Plans, prepares, and reviews charts, graphs, and exhibits to display statistical data.
    • Prepares and presents oral and written reports.
    • May assist in developing basic computer reporting systems unrelated to centralized computer operations.
    • May provide specialized counseling services.
    • May develop and coordinate contract, permit, loan, grant, and/or community programs and activities.
    • Assists in the various aspects of contract administration.
    • May participate in recruitment, testing, test validation, employee orientation and training, classification, compensation, affirmative action, labor relations, and other personnel-related activities.
    • May act in a lead or supervisory capacity.
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
    • Professional, technical and/or paraprofessional experience (equivalent to an Administrative Aide I-II with the City of Long Beach, or higher) that offers specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.
    • Willingness and ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and during emergencies as required.
    • Possession of a valid Class C Driver License.
