    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Family Services is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Family Services Technician position. As a member of our team, you will perform a variety of paraprofessional welfare and protection duties in a human services setting which support the safety, permanency, and well-being of youth, families, adults and/or seniors.

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    In order to work at the Department of Family Services, employees must not have any qualifying offense that violates the standards required by NRS 432B.198 and/or NRS 432B.199.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Special Education, Behavioral Science, Counseling, Health Science, Human Services, Nursing, Social Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Services or Marketing. Equivalent combination of education or directly related experience may be considered.


    Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

    Working Conditions: Work under potentially abusive, hazardous or emergency conditions. Some positions may require possession of a personal vehicle, which may be used for work purposes.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    General Family Services Tasks Performed in All Positions
    Drives a County or personal motor vehicle to transport children and/or family members, make home visits and other in-person contacts and to attend meetings; Participates on various multi-disciplinary teams regarding clients; Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its clients by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Works in a typical human services, detention, or public safety setting. Uses standard office equipment, reads printed materials and a computer screen, completes case notes, court reports and other written materials documenting the safety, permanency and wellbeing of youth, families, adults and/or seniors. Communicates in person or over the telephone; Understands techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, often where relations may be confrontational or strained; Interprets, applies, and explains applicable laws, codes, regulations to both clients and the general public.

    In the Department of Family Services (DFS) , the Family Services Technician functions as a paraprofessional human services worker in each unit in which it is assigned. Due to the diverse utilization of the position, incumbents in this classification may be assigned to various units similar to the following.

    Permanency Case Management (Out of Home, In-Home and Adoptions),
    Conduct relative and fictive kin home visits to complete Emergency Placement checklists. With oversight from supervisor or lead case worker, conduct child and collateral contacts to ensure child safety in placement and provide documentation of all contacts. Complete all relevant background searches to include CPS and police records checks (SCOPE and CANS checks) and, requests diligent search information, and arranging for fingerprinting with Background Clearance Office. Documents in a timely and accurate manner all child and collateral contacts, as well as home visits for all case activity. Assists primary case workers with documentation of assessment tools used to make case planning determinations.

    Resource Development and Support
    Collect and review application documents for foster parent or relative licensing to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance pertaining NRS and NAC as well as DFS policies and procedures. Enters application into Unity or other automated tracking system and prepares and sends reference letters for verification. Prepare home inspection reports and completes follow up on deficiency notices. Maintains logs and work records of activities. Review foster parent files on an annual basis to ensure current certifications in all necessary areas and provide follow up as needed. Coordinate and schedule fingerprint appointments for potential foster parents with DFS Background Clearance office. Coordinate required renewal background checks and home safety inspections for re-licensure purposes. Provide assistance to recruitment and information events for foster parent recruitment to include information regarding the recruitment and licensing requirements and processes. Schedule training for foster care licensing. Establish foster care files.

    In the Social Service Department the Family Services Technician provides outreach to the community or client base to which assigned; makes clients aware of services and community resources available to them. Provides basic referral and case management services to clients in collaboration with other departmental professionals. Interviews clients to obtain information determine eligibility for various social service programs and assess the appropriateness of referral to other community assistance or social service agencies. Obtains and verifies income, asset insurance and related information; contacts employers, banks, social security, veterans' administration and other public and private sources as necessary. Assists clients in completing applications; provides factual information regarding various program regulations and procedures; may act as an advocate for the client with other organizations. Creates and maintains case files; maintains accurate documentation regarding all information received and actions taken. Determines the need for specific types of assistance, such as transportation, medical care, and senior companion or burial services. Maintains accurate logs and complies records of work performed.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Strength and mobility to work in a typical home or office setting to include standing and/or walking for an extended period of time, and strength to restrain and/or eject individuals; drives a motor vehicle for travel to client residences, appointments and meetings; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
