    City of Claremont

    The City of Claremont Recreation and Human Services Department is looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated, customer service-oriented individuals with excellent public relation skills to assist with Youth Programs.

    The Recreation Leader position is part-time and can require up to 20 hours per week of work. The Recreation Leader position is year-round and will work special events and some weekends. The mandatory special events all staff are required to work include: Village Venture; Halloween Spooktacular - Saturday before Halloween; Holiday Promenade - First Friday in December; Spring Celebration - Saturday before Easter; 1k Kids Fun Run/5k Run/Walk - Saturday prior to July 4; 4th of July Celebration - July 4. In addition, Recreation Leaders may be called upon to work for other program areas within the Recreation and Human Services Department.

    The Position

    The Youth Programs Division operates the TRACKS Activity Center (TAC) and Youth Activity Center (YAC) during the school year, and Camp Claremont during a 6-week summer program. The TAC is the junior high after-school program and the YAC is the high-school after-school program, while Camp Claremont is grades 1st - 6th.

    • Hours: The TAC and YAC hours are immediately after school until 5:00 pm. Camp Claremont 6-week summer program's hours are from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

    • Duties: Each of the three programs consists of supervising 100 - 200 participants a day, while working with a team of staff members to create and implement daily activities. This individual's duties will consist of supervising, mentoring and keeping the participant's safe and engaged while in program. This individual may be responsible for answering phones and taking messages, having direct contact with students and parents, cash handling/food prep/restocking and taking inventory, planning and implementing daily activities and overseeing the volunteer program. He/she will be a part of the front line staff and have the most interaction with the youth participants daily, making sure participants are engaged, happy, and safe, feel welcomed and are aware of all the resources offered through Youth Programs and the community.


    Ideal Candidate

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualified applicants will have completed the 12th grade or equivalent. Experience working with the public and basic computer experience is required. Bilingual skills and a valid Class C California driver's license and a good driving record are highly desirable. CPR and First Aid certification is required within six months of appointment.
