    CAREER DESCRIPTION

    Warehouse Worker IV

    This position is scheduled to receive a salary range increase on the following date:
    Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

    This recruitment will be open for a minimum of five (5) business days and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 .

    OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
    This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Warehouse Worker IV positions with Social Services Agency. This recruitment may also fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    County of Orange , Social Services Agency (SSA) is composed of four business divisions: Assistance Programs; Children and Family Services; Family Self-Sufficiency & Adult Services; and Administrative Services; and over 4,300 dedicated employees, providing human services to an average of one in four Orange County residents.     THE OPPORTUNITY:
    The Warehouse Worker IV (WW IV) will work within SSA Administrative Services (AS), Centralized Operations (CO). The WW IV performs work which requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment in the maintenance of a large warehouse as well as the inventory required under normal and emergency situations. The position may act as a lead worker over a group of Warehouse Workers and other personnel.

    Examples of the primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:

    • Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment to keep adequate stock on hand; orders or requisitions special items as requested; orders standard items directly from approved vendors; calls vendors to locate and order specialized or emergency parts and materials; describes items in stock and suggests substitutes.
    • Expedites the procurement and delivery of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; telephones or writes to vendors and shippers to trace overdue deliveries; arranges through the Procurement Division, changes in delivery, adjustments for incorrect or damaged supplies, and the return of excess materials for credit.
    • May assemble components of modular offices and workstations.
    • May perform minor repairs to renew or replace existing part or parts of a facility for maintenance purposes.
    • Takes or participates in the annual physical inventory of supplies and equipment.
    • May be required to handle courier routes.
    • May be assigned as lead position in a location remote from supervision or assume responsibility for warehouse in supervisor's absence.
    • Maintains the warehouse to ensure clean and clutter free environment.
    • Receives, tracks, monitors, and maintains inventory in the warehouse.
    • May provide logistical support for outreach events.
    • In some assignments, incumbents, may be required to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator certificate.
    • May be required to participate in mandatory overtime in the evenings and weekends.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES:
    The ideal candidate will possess three (3) years of experience in warehouse operations.

    Professional and Technical Experience
    • Supply operations and programs involving receiving and processing warehouse stock products, and storing and issuing of a variety of supplies and materials
    • Supply flow and clerical procedures such as filing, maintaining records, indexes and invoices of items received, issued and in stock
    • Preparing and completing warehouse orders
    • Using manual equipment such as hand tools and power tools while assembling and disassembling modular furniture and shelving
    • Route and delivery driving
    • Computerized inventory practices and procedures
    • Perpetual inventory methods and practices
    • Basic purchasing practices and policies regarding standard stock items
    • Safety practices in lifting and storing materials
    • Performing elementary arithmetic computations requiring addition, subtraction multiplication, and division and use various units of measure
    • Reading, understanding, and applying procedures relating to the maintenance of supply records, requisitions, and purchase order
    Leadership | Teamwork
    • Deal effectively with vendors, agencies/departments and other personnel with tact and good judgment.
    • Provide lead direction to Warehouse Workers in the absence of the supervisor
    • Train others in the policies, procedures and methods utilized in warehouse work, including the use of equipment and safe work practices
    Problem Solving | Adaptability
    • Recognize problems, gather relevant information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Deal with urgent problems immediately and independently
    • Being able to deal with technical issues that come up from time to time
    • Handle a fast pace and stressful working environment without compromising safety and quality
    Safety Focus
    • Ensures that the warehouse premises are clean and orderly; participates in taking periodic physical inventories of stock; secures facilities.
    • Maintains and ensures the maintenance of the warehouse to ensure clean and clutter free environment.
    • Interprets and applies warehouse supply regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Train others in the policies, procedures and methods utilized in warehouse work, including the use of equipment and safe work practices.
    • Demonstrates the use and wear of safety equipment, including safety glasses, footwear, gloves, hats, and protective clothing.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
    Candidates will be required to undergo a background clearance check from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and Community Care Licensing (CCL) and must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Areas considered in the background check include conviction history, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts) if applicable. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.) In addition, a Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) background clearance check may be required. CACI is a repository of child abuse investigation reports managed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that contains information related to substantiated cases of physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental/emotional abuse, and/or severe neglect of a child.

    Eligible List

    Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
