    Applies/interprets conceptual accounting principles in the preparation/analysis of financial statements and determines the appropriateness of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP/agency specific/ state/federal requirements

    Analyzes accounts payable/accounts receivable/payroll/fixed assets/fund accountability ensuring regulatory compliance and appropriateness of financial transactions; prepares/reviews supporting documentation/explains accounting events in conformance with GAAP and GASB

    Assists with development of agency policies/procedures for grant applications and awards; reviews grant disbursements/investigates discrepancies/recommends/takes appropriate corrective action

    Prepares/reviews financial information requested by internal/state/federal auditors; responds to audits and corrective action plans, and monitors progress/reviews data/prepares fiscal notes in response to legislative requests/exercises considerable independence, judgment, and initiative in the performance of assignments within established policies and procedures/receives general administrative direction

    Reviews/evaluates/analyzes expenditures and budget requests; provides recommendations to meet financial objectives and assists with preparation of budget proposals / Audits vendor contracts to ensure compliance with budget allocations/expenditures

    Analyzes and interprets cost and/or performance data to identify trends; prepares financial forecasts; and assesses financial conditions and funds’ positions

    Identifies and investigates financial discrepancies/issues; advises management of solutions and potential impact; evaluates/provides recommendations in the modification/development of accounting systems

    Supervises and/or directs staff responsible for accounting functions/performs other related work as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Two or more years of experience as an Accounting Specialist I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR

    Six or more years of professional experience in business or government accounting.

    (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, that includes credit hours in accounting, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year - a minimum of two years of professional experience is required)

    All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

    Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

    The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years.
