    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in repair and maintenance of electronic controlled pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
    • Experience may substitute education up to four (4) years.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • If required, must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver License ( CDL ) within 120 days of hire.
    • Aviation: Requires a valid State of Texas Class C Driver License and the ability to meet driver eligibility standards detailed in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program.


    Notes to Applicants

    This position will maintain heavy equipment at Austin Recovery’s Brush Grinding Operation at Hornsby Bend Biosolids Plant. Perform work on heavy equipment (tub grinders, loaders, excavators, etc). Operate service truck to fuel equipment, add oil, grease, fluids as needed. Pick up parts from vendors as needed. Keep ARR Fleet Management informed of any concerns with equipment and communicate any issues with equipment operators and division leadership.

    Skills Assessments: A competency assessment may be required to verify your skill set.

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a Current Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date, along with an “X” endorsement or the ability to acquire one within ninety (90) days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Physical Requirements for Operational Positions:
    The employee is required to perform the following tasks during the normal course of an approximately eight (8) to ten (10) hour day, four (4) to six (6) days a week.

    Employee will be required to work holidays, after hours, weekends, seasonal shift changes and other areas due to business needs.

    This position is considered an essential position, which means it is expected that an employee comes to work during any City Closure or emergency to include bad weather and any other unexpected events or shutdowns.

    Military/Veteran: Veteran candidates will be required to provide a copy of their DD214 at the time of interview.

    Tobacco and Vape-Free Workplace: All Austin Resource Recovery locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any ARR worksite - including parking lot or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.
    Pay Range
    $25.74 - $30.50

    Hours
    Monday - Friday : 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Develops weekly schedules for periodic maintenance and trouble-shooting. Records work performed and parts used for billing purposes. Communicates with equipment users regarding schedule of periodic maintenance and other maintenance needs. Conducts routine inspections. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Orders/issues parts and supplies. Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment. Modifies or refurbishes equipment. Estimates time, labor, and materials for budget or billing purposes. Performs welding, braising, or fabrication of some parts. Maintains technical data on equipment to be serviced. Maintains inventory of parts. Monitors contracted maintenance services.

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Knowledge of symbols used in engineering drawing, circuit diagrams or schematics.
    • Knowledge of basic operations of small electric motors and pneumatic or hydraulic pumps.
    • Knowledge of safety in repair of energized electronic equipment.
    • Knowledge of operational function of equipment to be assembled repaired or maintained.
    • Knowledge of testing of electronic components.
    • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in performing electromechanical equipment and component repair.
    • Knowledge of complex electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Ability to test and calibrate equipment or controls to close tolerance.
    • Ability to follow written specifications and interpret engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, schematics, or procedures for assembly or repair.
    • Ability to lead and train others.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
