    The Transportation and Public Work’s Data & Technology Services Division ( DTS ) is hiring a permanent full-time position, an IT Data Analyst Senior (formerly “IT Application Analyst Sr.”) to join our Application & Solutions team. We’re looking for a curious and hard-working person who is excited about bringing modern digital products to the government.

    DTS is a division of the Transportation and Public Works Department ( TPW ) that embraces progressive civic tech values including open technology, agile development, and user-centered design to build impactful products with Austin’s mobility planners, engineers, technicians, and staff.

    We administer critical IT systems, engineer open transportation data, and geek over maps and open-source projects.     What we’re looking for


    This position will be focused on architecting, building, and maintaining form-based web applications. We build enterprise business applications for ATD staff using Knack , a no-code workflow management service, and we also have a team of developers who build custom software when out-of-the-box doesn’t cut it.

    This position will support a range of users from field technicians who install traffic signals to planners designing Austin’s bike lanes, by digitizing paper processes, optimizing operational workflows, and improving data quality. You’ll work with transportation staff and engineers to build software to manage the end-to-end workflow of putting new assets into operation; maintain and build new features for our enterprise platforms.

    What You’ll Do


    • Develop, design and maintain our no-code enterprise applications.
    • Work with stakeholders to assess our legacy systems, evaluate problems, and identify solutions that meet evolving business needs.
    • Work closely with our solution architect, product manager, and developers to design and deliver user-centered products in an agile fashion; participating in two-week sprint cycles and sprint reviews where you’ll demo your work for stakeholders.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and organize training resources, workflows, diagrams, help guide material for our end-users.
    • Maintain data standards, author technical documentation, and participate in interdepartmental meetups and events.
    • Lead identification, capture, analysis, and management of City IT and department data.
    • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams of transportation engineers, city planners, systems analysts, and software developers.



    Travel:


    If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Pay Range
    $37.63 - $47.98

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in developing, configuring and maintaining no-code/low-code web forms/applications/databases (ex. Knack, MS PowerApps, MS SharePoint, Salesforce, etc.)
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with emphasis on providing exceptional customer service to users in an enterprise software environment.
    • Experience administering SharePoint sites, permissions, and document libraries. Additionally, working with and other related Microsoft applications (ex. PowerApps, Power BI, etc.)
    • Experience with designing, creating, and maintaining relational databases, understanding database structures and principles.
    • Strong technical writing skills including experience providing technical training, presenting to end users, creating training material, documenting business processes, and workflow diagrams.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Designs, creates, and maintains relational databases and data systems. Collaborates with City IT analysts to identify data issues and prioritize improvements. Informs solution design and improvements to meet data quality goals. Leads and oversees data classification and data-mining activities to enable more accurate analysis. Determines necessary actions required to generate and publishes open data on the City’s open data portal. Creates data visualizations and reports to present to audiences using presentation tools. Creates standards and patterns for data distribution and retention. Implements statistical models to identify and reveal trends, patterns, and relationships in data to provide guidance to others for decision making processes. Enables access to City and external data sources. Suggests analytics opportunities and best practices. Contributes to management of central data stores and metadata to establish quality expectations. Identifies opportunities to increase data quality, including automation and data entry procedural training. Creates and implements techniques for data collection, accuracy and management.

    City Government
