    CAREER DESCRIPTION

    SR. ACCOUNTING OFFICE SUPERVISOR I

    SALARY INFORMATION

    In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

    Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    This recruitment will establish an open eligible list. The eligible list established through this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Sr. Accounting Office Supervisor I vacancies. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    AUDITOR-CONTROLLER
    The mission of the Auditor-Controller Department is to promote public oversight, provide accountability, and support financial decision-making for the County.     THE OPPORTUNITY
    The Sr. Accounting Office Supervisor I will directly supervise and perform a wide variety of difficult and responsible financial/accounting and or recordkeeping work. They will perform mathematical computations accurately, effectively supervise employees, and engage in performing a variety of accounting duties. The Sr. Accounting Office Supervisor I will also train and evaluate subordinates, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and review the work of others to ensure accuracy and compliance with administrative and legal requirements, consolidate records from several sources while summarizing and assimilating information into reports and other accounting documents. The incumbent will also reconcile differences within the recordkeeping system and related transactions all while preparing concise journals, accounting records, and the maintenance of accounting ledgers.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
    In addition to the minimum qualifications below the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:

    General/Technical Knowledge
    • Accounting knowledge of financial records and financial reporting, including accounting knowledge of cash collection and remittance processing activities
    • Internal controls knowledge especially in the area of cash handling and reconciling funds and relating to segregation of duties to protect trust funds
    • Experience with a variety of software accounting programs, preferably, CAPS+ to create and review journal vouchers and cash receipts
    • Strong software proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
    • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
    • Writing and grammar skills
    • Analytical, accuracy and organizational skills
    • Possess integrity and honesty and takes initiative to continually improve processes
    • Operating computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information
    • Checking figures, reviewing and auditing forms, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
    • Understanding and interpreting legal requirements including contracts, agreements, minute orders, and memorandum of understanding
    • Experience with a variety of County software programs such as CAPS+, ERMI, and CAPS Data Warehouse
    Leadership/Management
    • Leading and team building with a strong desire to coach and mentor others
    • Motivating and persuading individuals and team members to achieve unit objectives
    • Working well under pressure and with changing priorities
    • Demonstrating motivated self-starter with high ethical standards
    • Working in a fast-paced environment and be supportive of change

    • Providing employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes
    • Supervising the work of employees to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision including hiring, training, and evaluation of subordinates
    • Ability to effectively supervise employees engaged in performing a variety of accounting duties as well as train and evaluate subordinates
    • Strong leader and team builder with a desire to coach and mentor others
    Analysis/Problem Solving/Results-Oriented
    • Evaluating and using independent decision-making and judgment to address issues as they arise and keep management informed at an appropriate level
    • Able to research, organize and analyze relevant data and prepare complex and detailed reports for management and agencies
    • Developing alternate solutions for consideration, identify areas for improvement, seek creative solutions, achieve measurable results and implement best business practices
    • Establishing and maintaining effective accounting and other complex records and accounts
    Effective Oral and Written Communications
    • Communicating effectively and tactfully with client agencies/departments and work collaboratively with staff to achieve unit objectives
    • Demonstrating strong verbal and written communications skills; writing with excellent grammar skills and articulating ideas in an organized and effective manner
    • Ability to communicate technical and complex information in a clear and concise manner
    • Listening effectively to others and shares technical knowledge with others
    • Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS
