    Position Description

    Tacoma Venues & Events is responsible for sports and entertainment venues within the City of Tacoma (including the Tacoma Dome, Greater Tacoma Convention Center, historic theaters, and Cheney Stadium), and the Special Events program.

    The position of Tacoma Venues & Events Operations Manager is open now! This manager position is responsible for managing multiple facilities operations work units engaged in venue repairs/maintenance and the planning and execution of events. This role involves overseeing multiple elements of facility operations, including developing performance metrics, policies & procedures; procurement and budget monitoring, directing the operation and maintenance of complex venue systems; ensuring the safety and proper functioning of the facility for both the public and staff

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Manage operations department work unit to oversee all aspects of facility operations including event preparation and services, custodial, setups and changeovers, crowd and risk management, fire & life safety, and OSHA compliance.
    • Conduct safety meetings and ensure safety requirements are met.
    • Participate in budget development and procurement processes.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop and implement operational/departmental procedures.
    • Schedule, lead, and advise Operations Staff including Maintenance Workers, Custodians, Electricians, and HVAC Mechanics.
    • Approve all hours worked for housekeeping and setup departments.
    • Ensure all operations equipment is maintained correctly.
    • Oversee event coordination and staffing with contracted temporary labor company.
    • Manage subordinate supervisors and train employees on operating procedures.
    • Inspect conversions, construction, and installations to ensure accuracy and compliance.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education*
    Bachelor's degree (may prefer/require Master's degree)

    Minimum Experience*
    5 years of facility or related operational maintenance experience including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level

    * Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    Washington State Driver's License

    Desirable Qualifications
    Six years of facilities operational experience, including 2 years of prior lead or supervisory experience.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of the principles of organization and supervision.
    • Thorough knowledge of public assembly facility management and operation techniques.
    • Basic understanding of general carpentry, plumbing, electrical and maintenance work.
    • Ability to effectively interact with union representatives and satisfactorily resolve union issues as required.
    • Ability to supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled union craft workers.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, clients, contractors, partners and the general public.

    Other Employment Information

    Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

    Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

    Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
