Position DescriptionInstalls, maintains, and operates electrical systems and equipment in accordance with Federal, State and City Codes and Ordinances.
Work Location: This position currently works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities- Operation and maintenance of Electrical systems 50V to 15,000V
- Read and accurately red-line electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and test electrical systems and equipment (i.e., generators, motors, UPS’s, control systems, PLC’s, power and lighting systems, etc.)
- Plan, prepare layouts, and perform electrical work to meet facility standards
- Responsible for maintaining the fiber optic network and structured wiring for all IT, security, and access systems
- Perform programming and maintenance of motor protection relays, variable frequency drives, power monitors, and similar devices.
- Install interior and exterior wiring.
- Performs all work in accordance with the National Electrical Code, OSHA, and City Electrical Ordinances.
Working Conditions: Exposure to high voltage. Exposure to all weather elements and environments. Work includes confined spaces and heights above and below ground
Required QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience: One year of experience as a Licensed Electrician including industrial wiring
EquivalencyAn equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Licensures/Certifications: Minnesota Class 'A' Journeyman Electrician License
Valid Drivers License
Desired/preferred qualifications: Successful completing of a two year electrical program from an accredited trade school or the Minneapolis Electrical JATC program preferred.
Selection ProcessThe selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience 100.00. It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score 70.00 on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Drug and Alcohol TestingAll job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Eligible List StatementThe names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.
