  • Job Description

    The Missouri Department of Mental Health is dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and public understanding of mental illness and developmental disabilities.     The Director is to lead the crisis team (Tier 3) in the construction of a functional Tier 3 crisis team that is able to provide aide and supports to behavioral providers throughout the state, and to support the consumers of the State of Missouri who experience severe problematic behaviors and may be identified as dually diagnosed as Behavioral Health/Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (BHIDD). This position specifically supports the mission of the Department of Mental Health in the prevention, treatment, and promotion of public understanding of mental illnesses and intellectual/developmental disabilities. So too, this position is crucial for the development of processes that may enable access to quality mental health services, support ongoing continuing education, and increasing capacity of behavioral service providers to ensure Missourians behavioral and mental health needs are being met via outreach and support with cutting edge, empirically validated treatments. Additionally, the Director will lead and supervise a team of Licensed Behavior Analysts and Intensive Support Personnel. Provide guidance and resources to the team to identify solutions when problems arise. Monitor overall work performance to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and compliance with CSRs, DORs, Division Directives, and Division Guidelines. Foster an open environment for the exchange of ideas by being open to differing opinions and ideas. Make timely and consistent decisions and communicate those to team members in a clear manner. Complete weekly, monthly, quarterly, and project reports to document team performance and address situations that need to be improved in a timely fashion. Recommend and conduct training for staff of new processes and ongoing enhancements.

    • System-level Analysis includes supporting the Chief Behavior Analyst in the design of data gathering systems to facilitate monitoring of state-level training implementation of positive supports; completion of data analysis and reports to determine effectiveness of Tier 3 support coordination work and the Tier 3 supports process; and conduct data collection and analysis for work efforts such as workgroups, committees and training projects related to crisis level needs in the community.
    • System-level Design including developing, coordinating and leading the Tier 3 Supports teams that focus’ on crisis support and intervention; build and maintain systemic structure and tools promoting standards of skill development for Tier 3 crisis stakeholders; develop data and tracking systems to monitor progress agencies participating in the tiered supports process and agency tiered support coordinators coaching the process for agencies; develop training curriculum, reports, and participate in workgroups to address identified system needs; and work with other behavior team members to develop workgroups, committees and processes to address identified needs. Create functional connections with Tiers 1 and 2 in efforts to build out the multi-tiered work/impact capabilities.
    • System-level Intervention including developing, educating and overseeing the use of best practices for design and implementation of a Tier 3 crisis model and strategies in in an effort to assist individuals, families, contract providers and state staff to help individuals live in their most integrated setting in various regions within Missouri; provide leadership, oversight, and consultation to Tier 3 teams to build capacity and skills through development and implementation of training related to empirically validated behavioral training and programming, data collection and analysis, and the development and implementation of a Tier 3 crisis structure that can be systematically utilized in all regions and agencies; and work to enhance provider development in the assigned regions and maintaining a partnership with providers to improve capacity and services for individuals living in the communities
    • Brief individual level consultation with individuals identified as requiring crisis level supports in Behavioral Health and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. To assist the Chief Behavior Analyst in efforts to create structural supports within the Division of Developmental Disabilities and community providers for individuals experiencing crisis; and to work with the Division of Behavioral Health and other agencies in increasing capacity of DMH to support individuals in crisis. This involves consulting with providers needing targeted interventions for crisis individuals as well as the design and implementation of intervention supports to improve quality of life for persons served.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Licensed Behavior Analyst, Masters, or Ph.D (or eligible to be licensed within 30 days)
    • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
