THE POSITIONPermit Technician *Immediate vacancy is in the Fire Department*
Fire Department, Community Risk Reduction Division : The ideal candidate has strong computer skills and be familiar with Accela, HDL and Brycer software
. The position helps to answer questions and requests from contractors and members of the public, whether at the service counter, online or via the telephone. Will also assist with pre-fire plans, updating occupancy information, and social media as it relates to public education. Additionally, will create permits and calculate the appropriate fees, handle public record requests, maintain department files and historical documents, and run necessary reports for CRR or other City departments.

The position reviews engineering permit application submittals for completeness upon intake and issuance, assess and invoice fees, coordinates plan review with multiple departments, notifies the applicant of corrections/approval, coordinates plan pick up, creates and issues permits. Will schedule related inspections, accurately archive records, and process associated business licenses. Desired Programs: Permitting software, such as Accela, Outlook, PDF editor software, HDL, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
For information about this department visit; Culver City - Public Works Minimum Requirements : Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: graduation from high school and two (2) years work experience in an office or clerical support position, preferably in a construction/building code administrative office, or assisting the administration of a hazardous materials disclosure program or in an engineering permit office.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES- WRITTEN/PERFORMANCE TEST (weighted at 40%): To determine knowledge of basic engineering, building or construction activities and to assess office proficiency. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of November 18, 2024).
- APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (weighted at 60%): To evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 9, 2024).
