    The Position

    Traffic Center Technicians are located within District Traffic Operations Centers; operate in a 24/7 environment and facilitate the exchange of information required to maintain the safe and reliable operation of the state roadways while providing information to travelers; operate, control and conduct routine tests of traffic software, signs, and devices; record and track data; prepare reports; communicate with road crews to obtain and provide information.

    This position is located within District 3 in Elko, Nevada. The incumbent will be required to: Operate computer terminal, window based software, and other systems to effectively input, retrieve, and manipulate date. Skill in analyzing and interpreting state policies, procedures, and rules relevant to traffic control. Skill in written English sufficient to input data, compose reports and correspondence. Skill in basic mathematical computation. Skill in effectively interacting with other people, including communicating and responding clearly and concisely with accurate understanding and response. Capable of being available for shift work, working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. This position will require long periods of sitting, climbing up and down stairs and lifting up to 15 lbs.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of traffic center experience which included monitoring and facilitating traffic flow, developing responses to problems based on established guidelines, developing regular reports, and dispatching appropriate personnel to incidents; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Traffic Center Technician Trainee in Nevada State service. Special Requirements Positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. This position requires working alternate shifts and outside of traditional business hours. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
