Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
Graduate Engineer A:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
None.
Graduate Engineer B:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.
Licenses or Certifications:- Engineer-In-Training ( EIT ) Certification in the State of Texas,
OR - If certified in another state, must have the ability to obtain Texas EIT certification within six (6) months of employment.
Position Overview:
The Capital Delivery Services Department Engineering Services Division serves as an in-house engineering consulting team providing hands-on design of city capital improvement projects ( CIP ) that includes street reconstruction and roadway design, sidewalks/ ADA projects, urban trails, water/wastewater/reclaimed water renewal and drainage/stormwater improvement projects. This position designs construction documents and assists the engineer of record for City of Austin CIP projects.
SALARY RANGE :
Graduate Engineer A: $33.49 | $42.71
Graduate Engineer B: $35.50 | $45.27

Travel:
The Capital Delivery Services Department is comprised of multiple facilities located throughout Austin. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Record Evaluation ( https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Employment/new_hire_driver_safety_standards.pdf ) you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
Hybrid Work Environment:
The City of Austin Telework Program is designed to empower employees and leaders to establish hybrid work arrangements that promote high levels of performance and engagement. The City of Austin has an established work arrangement under which an employee is scheduled to work at least 3 days per week at their designated worksite. Some positions may require additional time at their designated worksite.
90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:
If the same or an additional vacancy occurs within the Capital Delivery Services Department in the same job title within 90 days after the start date of the top candidate, the additional position may be offered to another top candidate from the same candidate pool. This may include filling other vacancies with the same job title in other division/work locations within the City of Austin, Capital Delivery Services Department. Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

Hours- Monday - Friday
- 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.;
- Alternative schedule and/or flexible hours available based on business needs.
- Up to 60% teleworking available.
- Experience in Hydraulic and Hydrologic Modeling with drainage/water quality and storm water projects.
- Experience in civil engineering drafting with Computer Aided Design Drafting ( CADD ) software and ability to adapt to workflow processes.
- Experience coordinating with other professionals such as sub-consultants, surveyors or other stakeholders in a design team environment.
- Experience permitting civil engineering projects through Federal, State and Local governmental entities.
- Ability to travel to multiple work locations.

City Government
The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts. The Mayor and Council Members may serve in their respective seats for four years with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
The City Council appoints the City Manager who is the chief administrative and executive officer of the City. The City Manager is responsible for guiding and directing day-to-day operations, as well as providing strategic research, recommendations, and management leadership to the City Council on the city budget, programs, policies, and services.
