In this role, you will work closely with the Disease Control team, management, and the community to ensure that diseases are reported and investigated in a timely and an appropriate manner. Your leadership will be instrumental in contributing to public health efforts at both the local and state levels. Additional responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the hiring, education, supervision, and evaluation of public health staff
- Working closely with management on contract budgets and grants to ensure program compliance and fiscal responsibility
- Acting as a liaison with the state regarding issues related to disease control and providing consultation for complex or unusual cases by engaging subject matter experts
- Collaborating with state branches and community partners to address reportable and emerging diseases, ensuring proper reporting and investigation protocols

Three years of responsible public health nursing experience obtained after receipt of a California Public Health Nursing Certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of: modern principles, practices and methods of public health nursing including public health programs, community, clinic and special programs, and school nursing programs.
Considerable knowledge of: federal, state and local laws and regulations governing public health; the causes, control and care of chronic and communicable diseases and illnesses, handicapping conditions, mental illness and other disabling conditions; child growth and development and the principles and procedures involved in promoting maternal and child health and in family planning, pre- and post-natal care, and sexually transmitted disease control; and environmental, sociological and psychological problems related to public health nursing programs.
Working knowledge of: principles and methods of effective supervision and training; community resources available for assistance and program outreach in public health programs.
Ability to: Plan, organize and supervise the work of public health nurses and other personnel in a clinic setting or assigned program area; develop and maintain effective public relations with patients, staff, other County departments, community groups and organizations; recognize social and community problems which affect health of individuals, families and the general population; exercise independent judgement, analyze and evaluate situations and take appropriate action; instruct and prepare specialized educational programs; write effectively including the development of program goals and procedures for implementation; adapt public health policies and programs to the problems of an assigned area; and prepare clear and concise records and reports.
