    BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION - The Biomedical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is excited to invite applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2025.

    The successful candidate will be expected to teach foundational biomedical engineering courses in classroom and laboratory settings, promote a hands-on learning environment, engage in research and/or scholarly activity, and foster student innovation and creativity. Classroom responsibilities include teaching existing coursework and developing new technical courses within the candidate's area of expertise. The selected candidate will integrate teaching and applied research functions in a multidisciplinary environment at the undergraduate and the graduate level. The selected candidate will also lead and mentor students in applied research in areas pertinent to biomedical engineering, and will perform service at the department, college, and university level.

    The Cal Poly Biomedical Engineering department seeks candidates with an interdisciplinary mindset who work well in a highly collaborative environment. Cal Poly’s Biomedical Engineering program aims to provide breadth and depth in foundational engineering concepts, as well as physiology and other biological sciences. Outstanding faculty candidates will possess excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability as an effective educator in the application of engineering to the medical and life sciences at the undergraduate and Master’s degree levels. Our top candidates will also develop a technically rigorous applied research program and involve undergraduate and graduate students in their research.

    Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring range: $106,000 - $118,000 per year.

    The Biomedical Engineering Department is a community of faculty, staff, and students who strive to synthesize engineering expertise and medical needs to innovatively solve complex problems in biology and medicine for the enhancement of health care and the betterment of society. The department offers both BS and MS degrees.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering / Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science/Engineering from an accredited institution or international equivalent. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment.

    The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will show evidence of attention to and/or the potential to contribute on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion across their teaching, scholarship, and service.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preference will be given to those who can show evidence of working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.

    Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree), experience with laboratory-based instruction and/or industry experience. Experience and a commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting is preferred. Active engagement in scholarship and professional development is also highly desirable. Knowledge of industry practices, working knowledge in modern design and analysis tools, and willingness to teach in multiple areas of the undergraduate and graduate biomedical engineering curriculum are also preferred.

    Preference will be given primarily to candidates able to teach courses in areas of department need and secondarily to candidates able to teach courses in additional areas of emphasis for the Biomedical Engineering Department. Areas of need include:
