    The College of Education at San Diego State University invites applicants for a unique tenure-track 10-month Assistant Professor position focusing on quantitative research methods, starting in August 2025. We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative scholar who will contribute to both their home department/school and the College while making scholarly contributions to their field of study.

    Position Overview:

    This unique position will have a college-wide impact. The successful candidate will have teaching and consultation responsibilities in both their home department/school and across the College of Education. The home department/school placement is flexible, depending on the candidate’s expertise and preference. The current base teaching load for the college is nine units per semester with some opportunity for a reduced teaching load at the start of the position to be negotiated.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Conduct and maintain a robust research program. Research areas could include quantitative methods and/or applied research in the education or counseling fields.

    • Provide consultation (as part of the teaching load) to faculty and students across the college on quantitative research methods and assist in developing and analyzing research projects that use quantitative methods.

    • Teach courses, including college-wide doctoral level quantitative methods.

    • Engage in service to the home department/school, college, and university.

    The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $86,000 to $92,000 for a full-time academic year. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and academic discipline, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.     Qualifications

    Candidate Required Qualifications:

    • Earned doctorate from an accredited university in a field related to at least one of the seven departments/schools in the College (Administration, Rehabilitation, & Postsecondary Education; Child and Family Development; Counseling and School Psychology; Dual Language and English Learner Education; Educational Leadership; Teacher Education; and Special Education) by the position start date.

    • Demonstrated expertise with a variety of quantitative methods and software.

    • Evidence of or potential to develop and sustain a research agenda that uses quantitative analytical methods.

    • Experience or potential to teach doctoral-level courses in advanced quantitative methods using a critical lens.

    • Demonstrated evidence of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the following eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria [additional guidance on our BIE program is here ]:

    1. are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline,

    2. have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline,

    3. have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students,

    4. have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research,

    5. have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group,

    6. have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities,

    7. have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or

    8. have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.

    Candidate Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience in a tenure-track faculty position.

    • Prior experience providing methodological consultation.

    • Demonstrated familiarity and/or experience with grant writing to secure extramural funding.

    • Evidence of effective advising and/or mentoring of graduate-level students in quantitative research.

    • Experience or interest in multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary collaboration across departments or programs.

    • Experience conducting community-engaged research and scholarship.

    o Any experience you have contributing to and/or leading the grant writing process to secure extramural funding.

    • Statement of Teaching Philosophy (maximum of 2 pages). Please include the following:

    o Your teaching philosophy, particularly as it relates to quantitative research methods. How do you approach instruction in complex statistical concepts with a critical lens?

    o Your commitment and approach to advancing social justice and equity and addressing systemic inequity in your teaching, advising, and mentoring.

    o Experience teaching, advising, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

    o Any experience you have providing methodological consultation.

    • Diversity Statement that includes how you meet at least two (2) of the Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria (maximum of 1 page).

    • Curriculum Vitae.
