Job Summary The Prospect Portfolio Specialist is responsible for proactive prospect identification, system updates, and prospect management updates to include contact report review, prospect record updates, and proposal tracking. Under the general guidance of the Associate Director, Prospect Research & Data, the incumbent also is responsible for researching, analyzing data, collecting, and compiling background materials, data-mining reports and focused research on friends, parents, alumni and potential contributors to California State University, Long Beach.
Key Responsibilities - Responsible for providing prospect updates for moves management. Duties include monitoring contact reports for solicitations, maintaining proposal activity, meeting with DoDs for portfolio reviews and updating prospect assignments.
- Compile background materials, focused research (full biographies, donor profiles, data-mining reports/inquiries, and summary paragraphs, etc.) and analyze data for alumni, friends and prospects of the university to identify pipeline.
- Gather and input prospect information as it relates to event attendance, subscription-based database tools, and other relevant engagement efforts (i.e, email, surveys, and other related outreach).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Preferred knowledge and understanding of SEC documents. Familiarity with basic fundraising techniques. Demonstrated customer-service orientation. Computer literacy, preferably with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access. Familiarity with computerized fundraising record systems, preferably Ellucian Advance Web platform.
Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and informative research profiles, reports, and summaries tailored to various audiences. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and tasks are prioritized effectively. Strong attention to detail in researching, documenting, and managing data to ensure accuracy and reliability. Skilled in identifying issues, analyzing potential solutions, and implementing effective strategies to address challenges in prospect research and management. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of prospect research and data management.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Education and Experience - Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Communications, or a related field and three years of development, data entry/analysis, or related experience is required.
- Prospect research and/or prospect management experience in a charitable fundraising environment or academic fundraising experience is preferred.
Physical Summary Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,598 - $6,146 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,598 - $8,318 per month.
Benefits Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
Time Base 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
Additional Information A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
