We are recruiting to fill a Detention Juvenile Officer I position to perform supervisory detention juvenile officer work in the operation of a Missouri juvenile detention center. An employee in this position is vested with the statutory authority of a juvenile officer to take charge of children in custody within a juvenile detention center. Position is expected to exercise supervision over juveniles in a detention center and work with some degree of independence.
- Assigns, directs, supervises, and coordinates the work and training of a staff of detention aides and participates in the hiring process of such personnel.
- Coordinates and facilitates the training of detention aides.
- Authorizes detainment of juveniles who may be charged with delinquency offenses; provides and explains legal rights to the alleged offender.
- Conducts various assessments such as the JDTA, SAVAC, and MAYSI.
- Conducts detention orientation with juvenile and parents.
Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field; OR four years of experience as a Detention Aide I or II in a Juvenile Detention Center in Missouri.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Professional employment in a public or private agency involving substantial amount of time (over 50% time) in the delivery of protective services to families, adults, children, or the aged may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
Preferred Qualifications - Basic knowledge of juvenile courts and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of the Standards for Operation of a Secure Juvenile Detention Facility.
- Basic knowledge of statutes and laws regarding juvenile cases.
- Basic knowledge of personal computers and software.
- Applied knowledge of the statutory rights of juveniles.
