    Who We Are:
    The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885 million and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.

    The Opportunity:
    We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Section Manager, Information Technology, Communications Systems, ISD positions in the Communications and Mobility Services Branch. The Section Manager, Information Technology, Communications Systems, ISD position manages an Information Technology section of the Internal Services Department (ISD) performing telecommunications equipment and systems operation, maintenance, repair, installation, modification and/or related technical support activities.

    Positions allocable to this class will report to an Administrative Manager XIII, ISD (Division Manager) and are responsible for managing, through direct reports, subordinate supervisors and staff, an Internal Services Department (ISD) section responsible for audio/video operations and maintenance; telephone systems maintenance; communications request management; transmission network and outside plant maintenance; or radio communications equipment and systems maintenance.

    Positions in this class are distinguished from Section Manager, Information Technology, ISD in that the functions of the sections managed are technical operations support in nature, rather than being focused on programming analysis and applications, telecommunications engineering, network operations, or network maintenance.

    Essential Job Functions

    Position Responsibilities:

    Manages staff, including subordinate supervisors, performing analog, digital, or IP based equipment and systems operation, maintenance, repair, installation, modification and/or related technical support activities.
    Directs the daily operations of the section, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting deadlines.

    Assigns and evaluates the work of section staff.
    Controls the operational budget and expenditures of the section, including cost recovery.
    Develops the section's strategic goals and objectives, and participates in development of division strategic plan, goals and objectives.

    Meets with senior management, customers, other managers, supervisors, vendors, and others, to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.

    Prepares and reviews project progress or maintenance status reports.

    Recommends purchase of necessary supplies, equipment, and software for section and customer use.
    Recruits and trains new staff, and participates in hiring decisions.
    Reviews project plans in order to prepare for and coordinate project activity.

    Stays abreast of advances in related technology.

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify

    Option I: Two (2) years of experience, within the last three (3) years, at the level of Digital Communications Systems Technician Supervisor* or Electronics Communications Technician Supervisor** or higher, supervising technical staff performing analog, digital, or IP based telecommunication equipment and systems operation, maintenance, repair, installation, modification and related technical support activities.

    Special Requirement Information:
    *Experience at the level of Digital Communications Systems Technician Supervisor is defined as supervising the work of a unit engaged in the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and repair of digital telephone communications systems and equipment.

    **Experience at the level of Electronics Communications Technician Supervisor is defined as supervising the work of a unit engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications and related equipment.

    License:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Class:
    2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on assessment to be added onto the list of eligible candidates on the Eligible Register.

    Eligibility Information:
    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the assessment will be placed on the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation. Passing this examination and being placed on the Eligible Register do not guarantee an offer of employment.

    Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    No person may compete for this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.
