Position InformationGain experience in the event services field, become an Event Services Aide - Extra-Help!Multiple positions available. Starting salary up to $26.61/hour* depending upon experience. Event Services Aides support events at the Veterans Memorial Buildings located in Petaluma and Sonoma. Job duties include:
- Setting up furniture and other event-related equipment
- Preparing rooms for events held at the facilities, including cleaning, rearranging facilities, and other custodial work related to events
- Working with facility occupants during events
- Performing a variety of customer service-related functions
The ideal candidates will have the ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength, agility, and endurance. Ideal candidates for these positions will be able to work independently and as part of a team, enjoy working in fast-paced environments, and possess some event services experience in any of the following areas:
- Event set-up and take down
- Audiovisual equipment
- Stage and light control panels
- Recordkeeping
- Basic customer service skills
- Basic janitorial methods
Event Services Aides work weekdays, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours as determined by the events scheduled, location of the facility, and the needs of the department. An applicant's flexibility in workdays and work hours is highly desirable.
EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENT
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Intermittent, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most regular employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. I
ntermittent, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of 1,380 hours within any twelve-month consecutive period. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
*Salary is negotiable within the established range. The Sonoma County Public Infrastructure Department is currently recruiting to fill multiple intermittent, extra-help Event Services Aide positions. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help (intermittent) positions as they occur during the active status of the list.

Applicants must be able to speak, read and write English at a level for successful job performance. Some experience in customer service and custodial work dealing with group events is helpful.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of: basic customer service skills, basic janitorial methods and use of equipment; basic recordkeeping and reporting skills; use of simple public address and audiovisual equipment; the use of electronic information equipment and specific systems as used within the department.
Ability to: understand and carry out oral and written directions; adjust to interruptions, sudden workload changes, difficult assignments and situations while remaining calm and productive; become familiar with and to enforce safety rules and procedures and regulations regarding use of public assembly facilities; read and understand labels and markings on supplies and equipment; learn and explain the operation of simple electrical and mechanical equipment; perform manual work requiring physical strength, agility and endurance; work harmoniously with other employees and deal courteously with the public under a wide variety of circumstances; prepare reports regarding work activities; work nights, weekends, and holidays; and utilize electronic computer systems.
