DescriptionProvides intermediate-level engineering support to Operations and support department projects in order to deliver service that is reliable, safe, and efficient for Metro customers and employees. This role involves contributing to the integrated project management of the design and construction of the Purple (D) Line Subway Extension project, assisting in the achievement of project engineering tasks and goals.
Examples of Duties- Compiles and analyzes data for engineering projects; recommends materials and equipment
- Provides engineering support for various departments
- Reads and interprets system drawings for all lines
- Assists in preparing feasibility studies/engineering reports and in managing smaller projects
- Develops scopes of work for projects
- Prepares plans, sketches, specifications, and estimates for design, construction, and modification of Metro facilities
- Reviews consultants' plans, sketches, certifications, and related documents for compliance with Metro standards and requirements
- Troubleshoots, modifies, and repairs engineering systems, software, and equipment issues
- Develops and researches permanent and sustainable solutions for issues; plans and implements preventive maintenance programs
- Prepares project reports and correspondence
- Performs project control activities, such as budget and schedule reviews
- Develops procedures for maintaining remote terminal units and computer systems for various applications
- Provides guidance and assistance to new or entry-level employees in operating engineering systems, software, and equipment
- Updates databases and maintains records of changes
- Represents Metro with construction/engineering/supplier community
- May respond to site emergencies

Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's Degree in a related field preferred
Experience- One year of relevant experience performing engineering work in appropriate discipline; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- Professional Engineer License preferred
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
