    Anticipated Hiring Amount: $4,269 - $4,859 per month

    Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

    THE DEPARTMENT:

    The Office of New Student Programs and Family Engagement is responsible for preparing entering students for academic and personal success by providing an effective transition to the university from the point of admission through the end of the students' first year. New Student Programs and Family Engagement provides information, communication and services to incoming students and their support system to orient them to the traditions, mission, philosophy, and culture of the campus and to make them knowledgeable about Cal Poly Pomona's opportunities, resources, challenges, and programs. New Student Programs and Family Engagement designs, plans, implements, and assesses mandatory online and in-person orientation events. The office is responsible for compliance with federal, state, CSU System and University requirements and the timely and accurate dissemination of information to students, parents, and campus constituents. New Student Programs and Family Engagement is housed within the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. New Student Programs and Family Engagement supports enrollment management and student success and retention, and institutional planning in conjunction with other campus constituents.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Orientation Programming Support
    • Support the Orientation and Parent and Family professional staff in the implementation of up to 20 freshmen and transfer in-person and virtual student orientation programs, including but not limited to:
    • Providing on-site supervision during orientation events, such as early morning set-up, check-in, group presentations, orientation leader activities, meal periods, campus tours, late-night programming, and clean-up.
    • Provide professional and student staff with logistical support throughout orientation events
    • Participating in orientation sessions, including moderating panels and campus partner presentations.
    • Liaising with campus partners regarding orientation event participation.
    • Providing exceptional customer service to all orientation attendees.
    • Providing creative and innovative ways for students to develop a sense of belonging across the multiple modalities of orientation
    • Support the development of workshops and/or programs through a culturally conscious framework to support our diverse student population

    Project Research and Management
    • Assist professional staff with researching orientation models and frameworks, including identity- centered, culturally relevant models, and supporting project management of orientation tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Researching other campus orientation models
    • Reviewing existing literature on cultural and identity-centered orientation practices
    • Reviewing and updating orientation project management spreadsheet
    • Ensuring orientation tasks and assignments are updated throughout the summer
    • Supporting the development of orientation checklists for pre-event, day-of-event, and post- event

    Administrative Support
    • Support professional staff with communication and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Implementing student communication plan via emails, social media, and phone calls.
    • Assisting with the management of student and guest reservations, orientation holds, and fee refund processing.
    • Supporting guest relations student staff with answering emails, phone, and walk-in guests.
    • Supporting with event preparation, including preparing program materials.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.


    Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures, and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Enrollment in a Higher Education/Students Affairs Master's program (or related field) is preferred and knowledge of diverse populations.

    CSU Classification Salary Range

    This position is part of the APC bargaining unit. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the following site: https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/careers/compensation/Pages/salary-schedule-documents.aspx . The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $4,269 and maximum $6,040 per month.
