    Minimum Qualifications

    Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

    When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

    Duties Description

    Under the direction of the Park Manager, the Trades Generalist duties will include, but not limited to:
    • Performing a variety of duties in the restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, repair, and construction of park facilities and structures using the tools of the carpentry trade in a skilled manner.
    • Fabricating, constructing, repairing, replacing, and performing preventative maintenance on park facilities and other structures (medium to heavy physical labor tasks).
    • Adhering to professional codes and regulations common to the carpentry trade.
    • Laying out work, following blueprints, specifications, or other instructions, and evaluating problems with the designs; drawing rough sketches or preparing plans to scale; making detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects; and ordering supplies as needed.
    • Training assigned subordinate employees and assigning, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating their work.
    • Demonstrating the ability to work independently as well as the ability to work with a team and/or lead a team and be responsible for the overall coordination and execution of projects.
    • Working from heights to complete roofing and siding projects.
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    Additional Comments

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use as a term and condition of employment.
    • Ability to work from scaffolds and ladders.
