We are recruiting to fill a Senior Database Administrator position responsible for installation of the database software, new releases and upgrades, and supporting products. Also responsible for the management and hands-on database administration for the design, installation, configuration, upgrades, maintenance, backup, recovery, tuning and monitoring of all databases. Must be able to work as the highest level support engineer with knowledge and ability to respond to on-call situations, develops and maintains a backup and recovery strategy for all databases.
- Designs, configures, maintains, documents and tests database systems of limited complexity
- Identifies problem source (hardware, software or operator error), presents solutions and resolves problems, refers and discusses difficult and unusual problems with supervisor or other designated contacts as appropriate
- Develops complex query programs to generate reports upon customer requests
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve problems, as required
- Installs, maintains, defines, organizes, controls, and protects hardware and software products
- Creates, monitors, and modifies the physical size and structure of database components and programs that support, maintain, and generate information from a database
Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours in computer science, computer programming, systems analysis and design, or network design and configuration, and 5 years of experience with primary responsibility for the configuration of computer hardware or software in a mainframe, midrange and computer environment or with installation and configuration of operation systems, network design and configuration, installing and configuring software applications
Additional experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
Preferred qualifications - Proficient in database design and modeling
- Strong knowledge of installation, configuration, upgrading and applying service packs of the database implementation versions identified by the ITS division
- Proficient in database backup and restore strategy using full database backup/restore and transaction log backup/restore
- Strong knowledge of database clustering
- Strong knowledge of high-availability strategies (includes log shipping, DB replication and failover) and experience in disaster recovery tests
- Experience in database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, maintenance and auditing configuration
