General Summary:This is a supervisory/managerial position accountable for overseeing the work of professional-level accounting staff. Accountant Supervisors are accountable for formulating fiscal policies and operating procedures to concur with laws, rules, and regulations as well as Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Employees at this level administer accounting programs and may prepare budgets or participate in the budget process for the agency or department by providing data to the executive team. Employees are accountable for receiving and resolving questions and problems presented by business partners, federal government agencies, local governments, state agencies, executive staff, and other employees.
Responsibilities include: - Performs professional and/or supervisory accounting responsibilities related to the interpretation, processing, approval, and presentation of financial data.
- Processes accounts payable and/or receivable; monitors accounts and fund balances; and ensures compliance with established procedures, principles, statutes, and regulations.
- Reviews and approves the processing of invoices, vouchers, adjustments, refunds, expenditures, and disbursements in accordance with established financial procedures; investigates discrepancies, recommends and takes appropriate corrective action within established guidelines.
- Verifies, prepares, and presents financial data used in the budget process including budget estimates based upon projected level of activities.
- Assists in the preparation, planning, development, and implementation of cost allocation plans.
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of procedures and policies.
- Assists in compiling, preparing, analyzing detailed financial statements, reports, and data.
- Provides direction to purchasing staff in the preparation and maintenance of financial data and related documents.
- Completing financial and related statistical reports and monitoring of expenditures according to budget allocations/appropriations. Complete annual MHA surveys and Medicare Cost report.
- Approve payments in accounting program Sam II.
- Input medical bills into spreadsheets, enter check requests from clients into CIMOR, finalize bank deposits, and complete other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills & abilitiesIn addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision. Ability to evaluate and recommend financial process improvements. Ability to evaluate federal and state legislation to determine overall impact on fiscal activities and determine effective course of action.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience (Substitutions may be allowed.)
