    What You'll Be Doing

    The Wake County Health and Human Services Economic and Social Services Division has over 225 Human Services Caseworkers who provide critical resources for the citizens of Wake County. Caseworkers determine eligibility based on factors such as income, family size, medical information, medical evaluations/ health conditions, resources, deductible expenses, and needs. Applications and recertification are processed in NCFAST (the electronic case management system) and OnBase (the document management system) to issue benefits and perform case management functions. Caseworkers spend the majority of time within NCFAST and OnBase to determine the clients’ eligibility. We are currently seeking an Adult Medicaid - Eligibility Caseworker II to join our Economic and Social Services team.

    We are hiring at multiple locations throughout the county to work 50% in the office and 50% virtually (subject to change); training is IN PERSON, full time and can last several months. These positions may interact extensively or minimally with the client - in person or on the phone. Eligibility Caseworkers II's are expected to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines within a team of professionals focused on agency goals and outcomes.

    The primary job duties of an Adult Medicaid - Eligibility Caseworker II include:

    • Providing case management services by completing an assessment and determining initial eligibility for Adult Medicaid
    • Entering all required data into computer systems in order to authorize benefits
    • Referring household to outside community resources if needed
    • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of all policy and procedures by attending training and keeping abreast of all policy changes
    • Providing back up for other Caseworkers
    • Providing accurate and timely documentation and utilizing document management system for caseload management

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High school degree or GED
    • Three years of job-related experience
    • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Experience determining eligibility for a State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC or Energy Assistance Program) OR
    • Experience in a Human Services Technician role supporting any Human Services program in a county or state Department of Human Services or Social Services agency OR
    • Direct clerical or customer services experience providing support to a Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, or Child Care Subsidy Program within a State or County Department of Social Services
    • Spanish language skills
