    The Sheriff's Department is seeking a CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLERK to join their team. This position p erforms clerical and secretarial duties in the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department to prepare, process, maintain and preserve records and reports for various divisions including Civil, Warrants, Records, and Reception.

    Representative Examples of Work

    Answers inquiries from the public and employees. Performs reception of callers and visitors; answers inquiries from the public and employees; prepares and disseminates daily mail and other information. maintains department records and files. Performs computer data entry and word-processing. Performs various functions of Civil, Warrants, and Records Divisions and provide support to Senior Criminal Justice Clerks. Duties include but not limited to:
    Records Support - Transcribes taped statements that become part of the official criminal or court records; Processes Citations ensuring accuracy prior to submitting to respective agencies; processes Booking Fingerprint cards returning to MCDF booking for any corrections; fingerprints the public; scan case files, disseminate arrest records and investigative reports, according to state laws. Civil Support - Checks civil papers and court documents that are to be served for completeness and processes documents in accordance with established procedures and laws; Answers routine inquiries regarding civil process and procedures; processes Orders of Protection for entry into Records Management System; collects money, issue receipts, and prepare deposits for money received for various fees. Warrants Support - Processes warrants of arrest and completes monthly validations of entered records; return signed warrants for in-custodies, clears warrants and e-files returns; checks cancelled warrants sent by courts for completion in local records and NCIC; processes bonds and out of county arrests; creates, updates, and cancels records for warrants of arrest. May be tasked with entering other information into NCIC such as missing persons, stolen items, and administrative messages.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Requires high school diploma or GED.
    • Requires two years of secretarial/office or retail clerical work experience. Requires experience involving direct public contact both in person and on the telephone. Requires experience in word-processing and data entry.
    • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Successful candidate must pass an extensive background investigation.



    Physical/Environmental Demands

    The employee commonly remains in an office setting. The work requires long periods of sitting at a computer terminal. May require work outside the office environment for various purposes. Requires occasional light lifting (20 lbs).

    Excellent Medical Health Benefits– Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees. The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees. The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees. The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $258.00 per pay period.

    Medical deductible is $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.

    Flexible Benefits Plan– Pre-tax out-of-pocket medical expenses and day care expenses.

    Voluntary Life Insurance Coverage, Long and Short-Term Disability, Critical and Accident Insuranceare offered through Mutual ofOmaha.

    Public Employees Retirement System– Montana public employees of the state, university system, local governments and certain employees of school districts are covered by the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). New members to the PERS have an opportunity to choose between two retirement plan options: the Defined Benefit Plan or the Defined Contribution Plan.

    Sheriffs' Retirement System (SRS)– A public pension plan for all Montana Sheriffs hired after July 1, 1974 and Detention Officers hired after July 1, 2005.

    Public Service Loan Forgiveness- Working for Missoula County may qualify you to receive student loan forgiveness. Look here to learn more and understand whether you may be eligible.

    Supplemental Retirement Benefitsare offered through Valic or Nationwide.

    Sick Leave– Full-time employees accrue 7.38hours per month and are eligible to use sick leave once you have been an employee for 90 days.The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

    Vacation Leave– Full-time employees accrue 9.24 hours per month and are eligible to use leave after continuous employment for a period of 6 full months. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

    Holidays– The County observes eleven legal holidays in even numbered years and ten legal holidays in odd numbered years.

    Paid Parental Leave (PPL)-In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Missoula County 6 continuous weeks of PPL to eligible full-time employees that have been with the county for 180 days. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
